A few words about Vingrau

Vingrau is located at the limit between Northern Catalonia and Languedoc, in the Occitan part of the department of Pyrénées-Orientales.

The town's area is 3,212 ha. The altitude varies from 119 m to 575 m.

Population: 602 Vingraunais

The name of the village, in French and Catalan, is Vingrau. In 1793, the name was Vingraud. It is derived from a corruption of the name "vint graons" (twenty steps), in reference to the Pas de l'Escala, rocky ridge overlooking the village. (cf Histoire du village)

The clay and limestone soil is popular for its red wines.

Muscat is very fine and has remarkable flavors.

The mayor is Mr Philippe Camps since April 2014.

The municipality of Vingrau joined "
Perpignan Méditerranée Communauté d'Agglomération" on January 2011, the 1st, on the occasion of the "Communauté de Communes Rivesaltais Agly et l'Agglo"'s merger.
